My One Word 2025: Create

Published on 27 December 2024 at 11:41

Every year, like many others, I choose one word to define how I wish to show up and live my life in the upcoming year. My word for 2025 is 'create.' I considered several words, as I usually do, before deciding on 'create.'

I thought about other words such as imagine, joy, and mindfulness, but I am planning for this coming year to be about 'doing' so that I can make a positive impact in many areas, and I need my one word to reflect that. To me, to create is about bringing an idea into existence that has otherwise remained just a thought. I'm looking forward to acting on several ideas that have been on my mind for a while and exploring new possibilities in creative ways.

I appreciate how the word create is used in the following five quotes:

Plans to Create:

Professionally, I will focus on designing better differentiated learning experiences, especially within the early childhood writing workshop model, so that they can be better aligned to the SOR (Science of Reading), and so that best practices for Multi Language Learners are incorporated.  I will also plan carefully to provide imaginative opportunities for my kindergarten students allowing them to extend their standard-based learning in meaningful ways.

Personally, I will seek out new ways to express gratitude and support others as they work towards their own goals. Sometimes we need to use a bit of creativity to show up for others in ways that truly matter.

Both professionally and personally I will decide on which book will be my next to publish since I have several in different stages.

Choosing a Word:

If you are interested in choosing a word to focus on for the new year, I suggest making a list of five to ten words. Next, narrow your list to 3-5 and look up the definitions and search for quotes with the words under consideration. Think about the words for a few days until one really makes the most sense for you.  You might want to try this quiz if you are really stuck. Once you choose your word, make it visible. Change your screensaver, paint it on a rock, or simply put it on a post it! Try to journal about your word at least once a week and consider joining a FB group devoted to the One Word Journey, such as this one.

Most importantly, remain open and curious to the many ways your word can apply to different aspects of your life.
